After many years of focusing on “one-of-a-kind” custom homes, Atkinson decided to expand his business.  He believed strongly that a focus on streamlined processes for pricing and selections, as well as the convenience of having an open model home for customers to visit, would simplify, and thus, make more enjoyable, the buying and building process.  In addition, this would allow him to increase the number of homes constructed to a level which would allow for more favorable pricing to his customers, without compromising the outstanding quality that he had built his reputation on.  With these core business values in mind, he founded Atkinson Homes, Inc. in 2006.

“Our goal is to offer the conveniences that the customer enjoys when working with a larger builder, while still delivering the quality, flexibility, and personalized service you would expect with a smaller one.  With proper oversight, we will be able to handle the largest, most custom projects, work with many customers who may have thought a custom home was out-of-reach, and offer something to everyone in-between,” Atkinson says.

Atkinson knew that, in order to make his vision a reality, he would need to assemble a skilled and competent team. He recognized these qualities in Wendy McClellan, and invited her to join him to oversee sales, marketing, and customer care.  McClellan has 15 years experience in the industry, the last 10 of which were spent directing sales and operations for a mid-range semi-custom builder in the Indianapolis market. With a professional like McClellan serving each client personally, Atkinson could then focus 100% of his energy and attention on the quality of each customer’s home, while being assured that the customers are getting the attention and personalized service that they deserve and should expect when choosing a builder.

“Hersh served as president of the Builder’s Association of Greater Indianapolis in 2005, and I had the pleasure of serving under him as a member of the Board of Directors.  I developed a tremendous amount of respect for his integrity and leadership skills. Prior to that, I was already very familiar with his reputation for delivering a fantastic home as well.   When the opportunity arose to join him, I knew immediately it would be a great fit,” McClellan says.
